Microplastics throughout a tap water supply network

چکیده

Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate presence microplastics in drinking water along a large distribution supply network. Tap collected situ at sampling cabinets using an in‐line procedure that provided representative sample with minimal risk external contamination and avoided transportation volumes laboratory. Microplastics > 50 μm were analysed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). detected 38% samples mean concentration 0.01 per litre polymers identified polypropylene (PP), polyester (PES) polyamide (PA). Detection polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) silicone particles associated maintenance cabinets. This contributes increase knowledge regarding behaviour throughout network providing 3 000 inhabitants. Results indicate pipes not release into water.

Analysis of Bacterial Contaminant in Pasir Gudang, Johor Tap Water Supply–Varies pH Value Observation

The number of breakthrough pathogenic activity in water distribution network system is constantly increasing day by day especially at level of consumption. Bacterial growth or survival rate often relates to acidity and alkalinity of water. Sudden changes in pH value and temperature indicates a possibility of present bacterial contaminant in aqueous environment. The observation of pH- and temper...

Tap water tempest

You know the news isn’t going to be good when the report of a new study cites sources in City Hall rather than the scientific literature. That’s exactly how the story broke in February, reporting a link between tap water and miscarriages in a California study. On February 10, the Los Angeles Times warned its readers in a front page report that “drinking five or more glasses of cold tap water pe...

Evaluating Seismic Effects on a Water Supply Network and Quantifying Post-Earthquake Recovery

This paper summarises the impact of major earthquakes, 2010–2011, on Christchurch’s water supply network and what recovery measures have been applied, what worked well, what did not and why. A number of issues related to the open nature of the Christchurch water supply network were identified during earthquakes. It was difficult to manage large water supply pressure zones during the post-earthq...

Allocating security resources to a water supply network

This paper develops a method for allocating a security budget to a water supply network so as to maximize the network’s resilience to physical attack. The method integrates max-min linear programming, hydraulic simulation, and genetic algorithms for constraint generation. The objective is to find a security allocation that maximizes an attacker’s marginal cost of inflicting damage through the d...
